NEW DELHI: This is a time of change in Indian Railways. The railways are implementing many changes considering modernisation, passenger safety, and better travel facilities. The latest among them is that some changes are being made regarding general tickets. It is indicated that the practice of travelling in general coaches of any train with a general ticket after reaching the railway station will end soon.
From now on, when you take a general ticket, the train you intend to travel on will also be written on the ticket. Then, you will not be able to travel on any other train using this ticket. Several people died in the recent stampede at the New Delhi railway station in connection with the Kumbh Mela. National media reports that it has been decided to make the rules related to general tickets more efficient in the wake of the recent tragedy.
Along with this, there will be a time limit for general tickets. The law states that if you do not travel within three hours of purchasing a ticket, the ticket will be invalid. However, with the new law coming into effect, if you do not travel on the train you are supposed to travel on, the ticket will be invalid. Reports suggest that the railways will officially announce the new decision aimed at the safety of passengers soon.
