KOLLAM: Former Wayanad district secretary P Gagarin and Democratic Women's Association state president Susan Kody from Kollam were removed from the state committee as part of the complaints received by the party leadership.
Susan Kody was removed in connection with the factionalism in Karunagappally, Kollam, which had created a stain on the entire organizational structure of the CPM and even staged a party office march. New district secretary K Rafeeq was included in the state committee instead of Gagarin. The state leadership, which had instructed to avoid competition as much as possible even in branch meetings, was preparing the ground for the competition to remove Gagarin in Wayanad.
The tug-of-war between two groups led by PR Vasanthan and Susan Kody in Karunagappally is what led to the incidents that embarrassed the CPM throughout the state. Following the group war, contests were held in seven out of the ten local meetings in Karunagappally. The state committee members were locked in the hall during the Kulasekhapuram North local meeting. There were clashes outside. A march was also held to the Karunagappally area committee with 'Save CPM' placards. With this, the state secretary MV Govindan participated and dissolved the Karunagappally area committee. The organization's activities in Karunagappally are currently coordinated by an ad hoc committee formed by including district committee members from other areas.
