THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: D K Murali, a newcomer to the CPM state committee, began his political career by gaining party membership at the age of 18 through SFI and DYFI organizational activities.
He held the positions of DYFI Venjarammoodu Area President and District Committee Member. Those times were turbulent with protests, and DK even faced arrests. D.K. Murali, who helmed the charge as the Venjarammoodu area secretary of the Kisan Morcha, became the CPM area secretary in 1998. He continued as the secretary until 2016.
In 2016, Murali was chosen to succeed veteran Koliakode N. Krishnan Nair, and he didn't disappoint. Murali won from Vamanapuram in the 2016 assembly elections by a margin of 9596 votes. He repeated the same victory in the 2020 assembly elections.
D K Murali was the only name proposed by the state committee to replace Anavoor Nagappan, who was excluded due to an age restriction. Currently, the other state committee members from the district are District Secretary V. Joy, V. Sivankutty, M. Vijayakumar, Kadakampally Surendran, and T.N. Seema.
D.K. Murali reacted indifferently about his selection to the state committee.
"The party will assign different responsibilities at each stage. People who couldn't make it to the state committee are vital for the party, and there is no difference,” said D K Murali.
DK Murali, an advocate by profession, was born on July 31, 1961, in Vattayam, near Venjarammoodu in the Thiruvananthapuram district. His parents are T.P. Jagadamma and V. Damodaran Nair. Currently a member of the CPM Thiruvananthapuram District Committee, Murali was the Secretary of the Venjarammoodu CPM Area Committee for eight years. He lives in Venjarammoodu. Wife: Maya. Children: Balamurali, Adv. Hari Murali.
