MALAPPURAM: 1.5 kilograms of MDMA were seized from Kondotty in Malappuram. The stuff was seized from the house of Ashiq of Kondotty. It is hinted that the MDMA arrived from abroad via cargo. The DANSAF team is conducting a search at Ashiq's house. 1.5 kg of MDMA was seized in a search following a tip-off that the drug had arrived at Ashiq's house.

Ashiq is presently in the custody of Mattanchery police in a drug case. MDMA was recovered from his house. Six including a woman were arrested by the Mattancherry police in the raids conducted last January. Ashiq, the main supplier of MDMA to them, was also arrested then.

Ashiq had been running a supermarket on lease in Oman for five years. He smuggled MDMA purchased from abroad at low prices through Kochi and Karipur airports. He smuggled the item by concealing it inside food items and flasks.

Ashiq was later arrested by the Mattancherry police when he reached Kerala. The police came to know that MDMA is kept in his house after grilling him. The police informed that 1.5 kilos of MDMA was smuggled from abroad to Kerala through air cargo.
