WASHINGTON: A 10-year-old boy died after his 340-pound (154 kg) foster mother restrained him by sitting on him for about five minutes. The incident took place in Indiana in the US. The deceased child is Dakota Levi Stevens and his foster mother, 48-year-old Jennifer Lee Wilson, was arrested by the police. Wilson has been sentenced to six years in prison along with one year of probation for her role in the child's death.
The incident took place on April 25, 2023. Authorities found bruises on Dakota’s neck and chest during their investigation. Initially, Wilson claimed that Dakota had run away from home, and after being brought back, an argument ensued. However, further investigation revealed that Wilson was responsible for the child’s death. She confessed to sitting on Dakota for five minutes, which ultimately led to his demise.
After the incident, Dakota became unresponsive. Wilson initially thought he was faking unconsciousness, but when she realized the severity of the situation, she took him to the hospital. Wilson explained to police that she restrained Dakota in an effort to prevent him from running away. The autopsy revealed that Dakota died from asphyxiation and sustained internal injuries, including bleeding in his liver and lungs.
