KOCHI: The High Court has asked the government to explain the police investigation into the incident in which a 15-year-old girl and a youth were found dead in Kasaragod. A division bench of Justices Devan Ramachandran and M.B. Snehalatha said that it was understood from examining the case diary that the investigation was not conducted in a bad manner. The court said that it is intervening so that the family of the child who lost their child does not feel left out. The court has also directed that the case should not be written off prematurely as suicide and that all other possibilities, including that of murder, should be examined.
The court also clarified that it is not interfering in the investigation. The court asked the investigating officer who was present while the parents filed a complaint that the child was missing about the details that took place after that. Before the court convened in the afternoon, the court also examined the case diary. It then expressed its opinion on the case. The court clarified that it did not criticise the police in this case and that it was speaking on behalf of the child's parents. The court also noted that since the girl was only 15 years old, the investigation could have been carried out in the direction of a POCSO case.
If women or children go missing, the police should start the investigation immediately. Why is it difficult to find the girl's mobile location? When did the police dog check the area? Wasn't it days after the girl's death? The division bench of the High Court also asked why police delayed the dog's examination.
The court is hearing a habeas corpus petition filed by the girl's mother. The 15-year-old girl, who went missing on February 12, and her 42-year-old neighbour were found hanging near their house the other day. The bodies were days old.
