SIVAGIRI: Today marks a century since the meeting of two great men of the era, who were followers of non-violence. Sree Narayana Guru, led Kerala from darkness to light, and Mahatma Gandhi, led the country to freedom through non-violent struggles. The meeting took place on March 12, 1925, at 3:30 pm. The venue was the Vanajakshi Mandir near the Varkala Thurappu, known as the 'Gandhi Ashram'.
Gandhiji also participated in the communal prayer held at the Vaidika Math that evening. In commemoration of this, the centenary celebrations will begin with a communal prayer at 9 am today. Swami Vishudhananda, Swami Sukshmananda, Swami Rithambharananda, Swami Sandrananda, Swami Parananda, Swami Vishalananda and others will deliver messages at the prayer meeting held at the Vaidika Math. At 9.30 am, a procession led by monks will be led to the Vanajakshi temple. On the 10th, Mahatma Gandhi's grandson, Thushar Gandhi, will dedicate the 'Vanajakshimandiram' as a Centenary Memorial Museum. After the meeting, the memory of the Guru and Gandhiji's journey to Sivagiri will be remembered, and the "Ekloka Sankalpa Sandesh Yatra" tour will be held at 10.15. Thushar Gandhi will inaugurate the Centenary Conference at 10.30. Sree Narayana Dharma Sangham Trust President Swami Sachidananda will preside. V.M. Sudheeran will be the chief guest. Dharma Sangham Trust General Secretary Swami Shubhangananda will deliver the benedictory address. A.P. Mathai, former director of MG University Gandhi Chair, will lead a seminar on the topic of creating a society free from alcoholism. At 2 pm, a reenactment of the Gurudev-Gandhiji meeting will be held.
