THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Lithuanian national Aleksej Besciokov, who is wanted by Interpol in a cryptocurrency transaction worth crores, tried to escape by offering money to the police before being caught. Tourism CPO Jojin Raj was the first to find the accused who was ready to flee abroad. Jojin Raj then informed SHO V Dipin got Aleksej arrested.
Thiruvananthapuram Range DIG Ajeetha Begum said that Aleksej has been coming to Kerala for the past five years. The Crime ADGP received information about Aleksej Besciokov from the CBI on March 9. Ajeetha Begum said that it is a great achievement for the Varkala police to arrest the accused.
Aleksej Besciokov rented a homestay for a year by paying Rs 5 lakh. The rent for a year is usually transferred through a bank account after communicating over the phone. This time, he came to Varkala with his wife and two daughters. The family members returned to Lithuania the day before he was arrested. Aleksej Besciokov, who is in judicial custody in the sub-jail, will be handed over to the CBI soon.
The accused was arrested by a special team led by Varkala DySP Gopakumar under the supervision of Rural SP KR Sudarshan. The team included SHO V. Dipin and CPOs Rakesh R. Nair, Jojin Raj and D. Sujith.
