CHITRADURGA: A dispute over the distribution of drinking water at the wedding reception led to a fight between the bride and groom's relatives. The enraged bride backed out of the wedding. The wedding, which was scheduled to take place on Sunday in Hiriyur city in Chitradurga, Karnataka, was called off.

The wedding was scheduled to be between N Manoj Kumar from Jagalur in Davangere district, and CA Anita from Chirathahalli in Shira taluk in Tumkur district. Both are techies in a software company in Bengaluru.

The groom's family had come to the pre-wedding reception at the bride's house on Saturday evening. The incidents started when one of the groom's relatives got into a fight over the catering staff not providing him with drinking water after asking for it. When others took over, it escalated into a brawl between the two groups. The fight and quarrel lasted until dawn. The village leaders intervened to calm the situation.

The muhurtam was at 10.30 am on Sunday. However, the girl called her fiancé and informed him that she was calling off the wedding. Despite the groom's family's request to back out of the tough decision, the girl did not give in.
