Union Home Minister Amit Shah stated that the government has a plan to address three main security issues: terrorism, Maoism, and unrest in the Northeast. He believes these problems have hindered India's security and development for 40 years. Since taking office in 2014, the Modi government has made significant progress.

Shah emphasised that terrorism linked to political ideologies will not be tolerated. He made these comments during a discussion in the Rajya Sabha about funding for the Home Ministry.

Over the past four decades, approximately 92,000 people have died due to terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir, as well as from Maoist insurgencies affecting various regions. Before Modi's leadership, little was done to tackle these threats.

Shah pointed out that previous governments often ignored terrorist attacks in Kashmir due to political concerns. However, under Modi's leadership, a firm stance against terrorism has been adopted. This includes revoking Article 370, which supported separatism, and conducting air strikes in Pakistan in response to terrorist activities. Today, the situation in Jammu and Kashmir has improved significantly. Cinema theatres are now open at night, and events like the G20 summit have successfully taken place.

The government is also addressing the Maoist threat through negotiations with armed groups in the Northeast. Since 2019, twelve major peace agreements have been signed, leading to over 10,900 youth surrendering their weapons. In Chhattisgarh alone, 380 Maoists have been killed since December 2023. Shah asserted that Maoism will be eradicated by March 31, 2026.

In a separate statement regarding language policy, Shah denied any attempt to suppress Hindi in Tamil Nadu. He stated that if the NDA government comes to power there, it will promote Hindi alongside other Indian languages. He argued that Hindi complements all Indian languages and that efforts are being made to strengthen them. Shah criticised the Tamil Nadu government for failing to translate medical and engineering materials into Tamil and promised that an NDA government would offer such courses in Tamil.
