THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The national leadership will announce the new BJP state president on Monday. The nominations will be accepted from the leaders being considered for the post of president on Sunday. The national leadership is trying their best to avoid a race for the presidency. Amidst the best efforts, there are rumours of leaders within the party yearning for the big prize of state leadership.

The most favourable results point to K Surendran being reelected as the state party chief. The core committee meeting will be held in Thiruvananthapuram on Sunday morning. However, since the national leadership is fully responsible for choosing the president, Kerala leaders haven't been provided with any clear indications.

K Surendran took over as the BJP's state president in February 2020. Some leaders believe that Suresh Gopi's victory in Thrissur, the increase in vote share in the Lok Sabha elections, and the upcoming local body assembly elections have given a facelift for Surendran politically. Apart from this, Surendran also wields considerable sway within state RSS leadership.

MT Ramesh, the general secretary of the party, also stands a chance in the race. The leaders of the PK Krishnadas faction claim to be in favour of MT Ramesh. If the central unit decides on a women leader, the lot will fall for Shobha Surendran. Another leader on the list of possible candidates is former Union Minister Rajiv Chandrasekhar, a candidate from Thiruvananthapuram in the last Lok Sabha elections. Rajeev Chandrasekhar bought a house in Thiruvananthapuram to bolster his presence in the capital city and take up the reins with a victory in the upcoming elections.
