THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The BJP will decide on K. Surendran’s continuation as the state president tomorrow. The decision will be finalized during the core committee meeting led by central observer Pralhad Joshi. An official announcement is expected at the state committee meeting slated for Monday at the Uday Palace Convention Centre.

Reports indicate that M.T. Ramesh, Rajeev Chandrasekhar, and Sobha Surendran are also being considered. Traditionally, the state president is elected unanimously.

The election notification for the state president was issued yesterday by the state returning officer K. Narayanan Namboothiri. Nomination papers will be accepted at the state committee office today between 2 pm and 3 pm. The scrutiny of nominations will be held at 4 pm. If voting is required, it will take place on the 24th morning, and the result will be announced at 11 am at the Uday Palace Convention Centre.

Since local body elections and assembly elections are approaching, there is a strong possibility that K. Surendran will continue. Surendran has completed five years in this position, which includes two years as interim president and three years as a full-term president. According to the party constitution, a person cannot serve more than two terms as president. There is a debate over whether Surendran’s five years should be counted as two terms. The central leadership reportedly considers it as one term.
