KOCHI: A Goan woman suffered serious injuries after being hit by a car driven by a drunken youth. Jaisal Gomez, who sustained injuries on her head and leg, has been admitted to a private hospital in Kochi. She will undergo a surgery. The Kadavanthra police have registered a case against Chalakudy native Yasir, who drove the car that caused the accident.
The incident occurred on the busy SA Road, where the young man, under the influence of alcohol, engaged in a reckless high-speed chase. CCTV footage has also surfaced showing the car hitting Jaisal. The altercation that led to the dangerous chase started at the Pallimukku junction when a bike passenger refused to give way to Yasir's car at the traffic signal.
Yasir followed the motorcycle at high speed for one and a half kilometres, from Pallimukku to the Kadavanthra Metro Station. While trying to hit the motorcycle, Yasir lost control of the car and crashed into the guardrail of a bridge near the Metro Station. Jaisal, who was walking with her husband Estevam, got caught between the car and the railing. The couple, who had come to Kochi for tourism, were on their way back to Goa the yesterday night when the accident occurred.
