SHANGUMUGHAM: Yet another bird strike delayed an IndiGo flight from Thiruvananthapuram to Bengaluru by 13 hours on Monday. IndiGo flight 6E 6629, which was scheduled to take off at 7.30 am on Monday with 179 passengers, was delayed. The bird hit the left part of the engine while it was moving along the runway. The impact of the hit caused a distress signal to appear on the plane's monitor.

The pilot immediately apprised the air traffic control about the situation. The ATC then turned off the plane's takeoff signal and ordered the plane to move from the runway to the parking area.

The plane was moved to the parking area while the passengers were taken to the lounge inside the terminal. The plane was then moved to the repair yard, where technicians inspected and fixed the fault. The flight was postponed to the evening, considering the runway would be closed at 9:00 for recarpeting. The flight then departed at 6:50 PM.

As air disasters continue to occur, there is growing outrage over the authorities' failure to take action to prevent bird strikes at Thiruvananthapuram Airport. According to the Ministry of Civil Aviation, Thiruvananthapuram has the highest number of bird strikes among the country's 70 major airports, with five bird strike incidents in the last month alone.
