MALAPPURAM: The police on Wednesday submitted further investigation report in the court in the Kodakara hawala case. The report said there is truth in Thiroor Satheesh’s statement and that illicit funds of Rs 6 crore was delivered to the BJP office. The police submitted the report after concluding the second phase of the investigation. Meantime, Satheesh told media that he is waiting to know the decision of the court.

A gang stopped a car at Kodakara on the national highway and stole the money brought from Kozhikode to Kochi on the early morning of April 3 in 2021. The car owner had filed a complaint that Rs 25 lakh had been stolen, but the police investigation found that Rs 3.5 crore had been lost. Although there were allegations that this money was delivered by the Karnataka unit of the BJP to spend in the assembly elections, the BJP had denied this.

However, Thiroor Satheesh revealed that the hawala money worth crores was BJP's election fund. He had also said that the room was booked for those who brought the money as per the request of the district treasurer. 23 people were arrested in the case. The investigating officer was later shifted. All the accused were released on bail. Many including the son of BJP state president K Surendran was questioned. The police’ explanation was that the investigation was conducted in a robbery case and that the BJP leaders have no role in it. The police had said that the Enforcement Directorate (ED) should investigate the black money case.
