NEW DELHI: Preparations are in the final stages in Madurai, Tamil Nadu, which will host the 24th CPM Party Congress. The Tamukkam Convention Centre in Madurai is the main venue for the party congress. The conference will be attended by party representatives from across the country from April 2 to 6.

The main agenda of the party congress will include the policy approach towards the Congress and electing the successor to Sitaram Yechury. The names of current PB members M.A. Baby and B.V. Raghavulu and central committee member Ashok Dhawale are being mentioned for the post of general secretary. Except for Pinarayi Vijayan, no one else in the committees may get a relaxation in the age limit of 75 years.

Considering the possibilities, new entrants are likely to find a place in the committee. The party congress also expects discussions to counter BJP’s steady but slow growth, especially in Kerala. The inaugural session will be held on April 2 at 8 am. The delegates' meeting will begin in the same afternoon. The party congress will begin with a public meeting at the Madurai Vandiyur Ring Road Junction Ground after the Red Flag March at 3 pm on April 6.

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, Karnataka Minister Krishna Byre Gowda, CPM Coordinator Prakash Karat and others will participate in the seminar on the topic 'Federalism: The Power of India' on April 3 at 5 pm. Cultural programs will also be organized in the evenings. Film stars Vijay Sethupathi and Samuthirakani and director Vetrimaran will participate in the evening program on April 4.
