KANYAKUMARI: A man and his wife were brutally assaulted and dragged on a two-wheeler by his younger brother for marrying outside their caste. The victims, Prashant (32) and his wife Aishwarya (30), both natives of Kumarakovil in Kanyakumari district, were attacked by Prashant’s younger brother, Pradeep.

Three years ago, Prashant married Aishwarya, a widow from Manikattipottal, who belonged to a different caste. Pradeep strongly opposed the marriage due to caste differences. Fearing his brother’s hostility, Prashant and Aishwarya moved to a rented house on Amman Kovil Street in Manikattipottal.

Upon learning of their whereabouts, Pradeep arrived at their rented home and launched a brutal attack on the couple. After assaulting them, he tied them to his two-wheeler and dragged them along the road before fleeing the scene. The injured couple was rescued by locals and admitted to Thuckalay General Hospital for treatment.

Prashant and Aishwarya alleged that although they had lodged a complaint with the Thuckalay police, no serious investigation has been conducted into the incident.
