THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Mohanlal-Prithviraj's big-budget movie ‘Empuraan’ left many fuming for the politically volatile content the movie waded through. The film began with visuals of the Gujarat riots of 2002, implicitly antagonising the current ruling party in India. This has not boded well with the party’s supporters in the state. The movie is now bombarded with attacks from RSS-BJP sympathizers on social media. Many even called supporters and their families to join in for a boycott of the movie.
With news spreading about ultra right wing bashing in the movie, people from opposite political camps extended support for ‘Empuraan’ and asked people to watch the movie to know more about the political reality of India.
At the same time, BJP is at odds while handling the 'Empuraan' controversy. State president Rajeev Chandrasekhar had said that he would watch the film. Rajeev made the response before the release of the movie.
Meanwhile, State Vice President P. Reghunath strongly criticized the movie as ‘pure nonsense’ intended to whitewash terrorists. Senior RSS leader J Nandakumar also came with criticism of the movie. Meanwhile, BJP state general secretary M T Ramesh asked people to consider the movie as just a work of art and said no propaganda would affect the party work.
