PATHANAMTHITTA: Police suspended further proceedings in the case against activist Rehana Fathima. The case was filed on a complaint of insulting Lord Ayyappan on Facebook. Police have clarified that information related to the 2018 Facebook post was unavailable from Meta. The police said further action would be taken after receiving more information. The police also informed BJP leader Radhakrishna Menon, the complainant in the case, about the same. A report has also been submitted to the magistrate court.
During the events surrounding the Sabarimala women's entry protest, Rehana Fathima shared a picture of herself dressed as Ayyappa on Facebook. This led to Radhakrishna Menon filing a complaint.
In the complaint, Menon said that Rehana willfully hurt religious sentiments by putting up a profane image of the Lord. Rehana Fathima, a native of Ernakulam, gained attention after she trekked the Ayyappa temple in Sabarimala. Rehana, along with a police entourage, reached near the temple premises but was forced to return following strong protests from devotees.
In a cooking video, Rehana, while preparing beef fry, addressed the dish as ‘Gomatha fry’ which invited legal trouble. In yet another case, arguably the most noted one, Rehana was asked to retire by her company and faced strong legal measures after she allowed her minor children to paint on her naked body. This video was later uploaded as a vlog on YouTube.
