NAYPYIDAW: Germany’s GFZ Helmholtz Centre for Geosciences reported a powerful earthquake in Myanmar. The earthquake struck this afternoon at a depth of 10 kilometers. The United States Geological Survey (USGS) said it was a strong earthquake with a magnitude of 7.7.
There have been no reports of damage or casualties so far. More than 17 million people live in Bangkok, most in high-rise apartments. People staying in hotels in densely populated central Bangkok fled in panic and remained on the streets minutes after the earthquake.
In the impact of the strong earthquake, even water from pools in high rise buildings flowed out. People were evacuated from some buildings. The epicenter of the earthquake was found to be in central Myanmar.
