PALAKKAD: A 55-year-old woman drowned while trying to rescue her granddaughter, who had fallen into a pond in Chittoor. The dead is Nabeesa (55) of Vandithavalam. Her granddaughter Shifana fell into the pond when she was chased by the dog. The accident happened around 5 pm last evening. Nabeesa had come near the Vadathode pond in Vandithavalam to graze her goat. Nabeesa then saw Shifana being chased by the dog.

While trying to escape from the dog, the child slipped and fell into the pond. Nabeesa, who rushed to save the child, drowned in the pond. She was immediately rushed to Chittoor Taluk Hospital, but her life could not be saved. Shifana is undergoing treatment in the district hospital.
