KOCHI: A sub inspector was suspended for stealing money from the purse of a person who lost his life after fatally knocked down by a train. Rural SP suspended Salim, sub inspector of Aluva police station. He stole the money from the purse of a Rajasthan native who died after being hit by a train.


An amount of Rs 8000 was in the purse. The police had counted and kept the money in the purse. After this, the sub inspector took Rs 3000 from it. The incident came to light after examining the CCTV footage of the station. Soon the SI was suspended. Meantime, Salim explained that the money was taken to give the person who helped the police in the inquest.


Meanwhile, a complaint was received that a civil police officer was knocked down by a bike during a vehicle inspection in Thiruvananthapuram. Civil police officer Rakesh of Vizhinjam station was seriously injured in the accident. The incident took place while he was conducting a vehicle inspection in Kalluvettankuzhi area the other day. A speeding bike which came while checking another vehicle, struck Rakesh and sped away. Rakesh suffered serious injuries to his hip and hand. He also has a wound in his hand. Following the accident, the police officer was taken to the Vizhinjam Community Health Center and then admitted to a private hospital in the city. The police said they are examining CCTV cameras to identify the vehicle that hit Rakesh and have intensified the investigation.
