BHUBANESWAR: One person died and several injured as an express train derailed in Odisha. Eleven coaches of SMVT Bengaluru-Kamakhya AC Express derailed at Nergundi railway station in Cuttack around 12 noon. Rescue operations are in progress in the area.

Odisha Fire Service Director General Sudhansu Sarangi said that the injured in the accident have been admitted to the hospital. He also said that NDRF teams and the fire service are jointly carrying out the rescue operations.

The train was going from Bengaluru to Kamakhya station in Guwahati, Assam when the accident occurred. East Coast Railway Chief Public Relations Officer Ashok Kumar Mishra said that a train has been sent to the accident site for relief operations. Necessary arrangements have been made to take the accident victims to their destinations. He also said that some trains have been diverted following the accident.
