Former BJP state president K Surendran has taken a jibe on the controversy in connection with the Prithviraj-Mohanlal film Empuraan. Now what we see is not Empuraan, but ‘Embalm Puraan’.
Empuraan embroiled in controversy is being censored again after release. After re-editing, the new version of Empuraan will hit theaters on Thursday. 17 scenes will be changed. The villain's name will be changed. Some dialogues will be muted. It is reported that the producers themselves will submit the new version for censoring. BJP leader K Surendran has taken a dig at this.
The crew decided to re-edit the film after the RSS took a tough stand against Empuraan. The RSS mouthpiece Organizer criticized the film for having an anti-Hindu agenda. It was also alleged that the content was handled with bias. Later, the Union Home Ministry sought a report from the Information and Broadcasting Department. With this, the producers and the crew had no other option. They decided to make changes themselves after getting indications that the censor board would recall the film.
Following this, the film's hero Mohanlal had expressed regret. 'Some of the political and social themes that have come into the expression of the film Empuraan have caused great mental distress to many of my loved ones. Therefore, I and the Empuraan team regret for the mental distress caused to my loved ones,' Mohanlal wrote on social media. This post was also shared by the film's director Prithviraj.
