PALAKKAD: Police have registered a case in the death of a woman after a car hit the bike she was travelling in from behind at the Marutharoad junction on the National Highway. A case has been registered against the car driver, Ramesh (35), a native of Thenkurissi. The action is in the case of the death of Amrita (36), a native of Thikkodi. Amrita is the wife of Arunkumar, a native of Kalandithara, Kurudikkad, Puthussery.

The accident took place in front of a hotel at Marutha Road junction at around 8:30 last night. Amrita's paternal uncle B Mahipal (59), who was riding the bike, and Amrita's daughter Aadvika (2.5 years old) were also injured. They were going to a supermarket on Marutha Road from Puthussery. The speeding car first hit the bike and then crashed into another car in front. The car was going from Coimbatore to Palakkad. CCTV footage of the accident has also been released.

The three people who fell on the road were immediately taken to the district hospital by the youth who rushed to the spot, but Amrutha could not be saved. Mahipal has suffered injuries to his back and leg. The child has minor injuries to her leg. Amrutha is the daughter of Mohandas and Shailaja, natives of Thikkodi, Kozhikode. Mohandas and Mahipal came to work in a company in Coimbatore 20 years ago. This is why they moved to Puthussery.

Amrutha's husband works in Qatar. After getting the news, he tried to return home, but he could not get a flight ticket due to Ramadan. Arunkumar will reach home by tonight. Amrutha's body was shifted to a private hospital in Palakkad after the postmortem. The funeral will be held tomorrow evening.
