THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The new version of the Empuraan movie, which was re-edited following political controversies, will not be screened in theatres today. Technical reasons are blamed for the delay, while reports confirmed that the new version will start screening in theatres from Tuesday.

Following the controversy, the three-minute sequence in the movie was removed. Despite a holiday, the censor board officials held an emergency meeting yesterday. The edit will also include certain changes to 17 scenes from the movie, while the villain’s character will be rechristened.

The political controversy surrounding Empuraan led Mohanlal to publicly express regret yesterday. Director Prithviraj, in solidarity with Mohanlal, shared the actor's post on social media, clarifying his position. In the post, Mohanlal emphasized that it is his responsibility to ensure that none of his films promote hatred toward any political group, ideology, or religious community. He also expressed sorrow over the distress caused to his loved ones and confirmed that the decision to remove certain scenes was made collaboratively, with everyone involved taking responsibility.
