THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Excise found banned cannabis at Thiruvananthapuram University College Hostel in a lightning raid conducted on Tuesday. The raid was conducted under the leadership of Excise Inspector Harikrishnan.

Excise officers conducted a lightning search of each room in the hostel. It is being reported that a small amount of cannabis was found. The excise raid was based on information received during the questioning of those arrested in drug cases in the past few days. It is reported that the raid will continue till the evening today.

More officials, including the Excise Special Squad, are likely to arrive at the spot soon. The university college has been the centre of various violent clashes before. Fearing chances of such melee, more police officials have been summoned.

In the last weeks, Excise had seized marijuana from Kalamassery Government Polytechnic College hostel. The news was discussed in social media space for a long time. Meanwhile, 3057 people suspected of being involved in drug trafficking were tested in a special drive conducted yesterday as part of Operation D-Hunt in the state.

Operation D-Hunt was conducted statewide from March 30, 2025, to identify and take strict legal action against those involved in the illicit drug trade.
