ALUVA: Strict punitive action may be taken against the sub-inspector from Aluva who stole Rs 3000 from the wallet of a train accident victim. P.M. Salim, a Nellikuzhi native and SI at Aluva police station, was suspended earlier for furtively taking money from the wallet of Jitul Gogoi (27), who died after falling from a train.
SP Vaibhav Saxena has asked Aluva Crime Branch DySP P M Varghese to investigate the incident in detail and submit a report. Strong actions are on cards based on the report. There are also indications that severe action may be taken, including dismissal from service. The investigation report by Aluva DySP PR Rajesh states that PM Salim, with his despicable act, tainted the repute of the Kerala police.
Jitul Gogoi died on the 19th. He had Rs 8,000 in his wallet. The police who conducted the inquest recorded the amount in the wallet and placed it on the GD charge table at the station. Since these were to be given to the victim's kin, the GD officer checked and found a shortfall of Rs 3000. Salim's unscrupulous act came to light through the CCTVs.
A case of theft was filed against Salim. Salim explained that he took the money to give to the person who helped him move the body to the morgue. Salim has previously faced departmental action for illegal financial transactions.
