NEW DELHI: Indian Railways is undergoing a major transformation, with new measures being introduced across safety, cleanliness, and infrastructure. A significant change is being planned regarding how passengers access railway stations, with a focus on improving the timing and process of entry. Under the new system, passengers will be required to show a confirmed ticket to gain access to the platforms.
This new procedure will be tested at 60 of the busiest railway stations across the country. The primary goal of this initiative is to reduce overcrowding at stations. By limiting platform access, the aim is to enhance passenger safety and provide a more secure environment. Initially, the system will be rolled out at key railway stations in Tier 1 metro cities.
While confirmed ticket holders will have priority, passengers with general tickets will also be allowed onto the platforms. However, passengers with waiting list tickets will face a different process. They will be directed to specific waiting rooms while they await their turn.
Under the updated guidelines, passengers without tickets or those on the waiting list will need to wait in designated areas outside the station premises. A senior officer will be appointed as the station director at stations where this decision is implemented. The station director will have the authority to decide how many passengers can be allowed into the station, based on the station's space constraints and ticket availability.
