CHENNAI: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) is conducting raids at Gokulam Chits Fund, owned by Gokulam Gopalan, one of the producers of Empuraan. It is reported that the searches have been going on for more than an hour. According to the latest information, a raid is also being conducted at Gokulam Gopalan's house at Neelankarai in Chennai. However, it is not clear in which case the raid is being conducted now. The searches are progressing at the Gokulam Chit Funds corporate office in Kodambakkam, Chennai. Members of the ED Kochi unit are also in the search team. Meantime, searches are also on at the Kozhikode and Kochi units of the firm.
The information about this raid comes at a time when the political resolutions put forward by the movie Empuraan are being discussed. Youth Congress leader Ebin Varkey’s FB post had mentioned about the ED raid on Mohanlal, Antony Perumbavoor and Gokulam Gopalan soon after the actor expressed regret in the Empuraan controversy. In April 2023, Gokulam Gopalan was questioned by the Enforcement Directorate from morning to evening as part of an investigation in another case. Since then, no ED action was taken against him.
Lyca Productions, one of the main producers of the film, had backed out before the release of Empuraan on March 27. Soon Gokulam Gopalan came forward as one of the producers of the film.
