THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan's daughter Veena Vijayan, named as an accused in the CMRL-Exalogic deal case, is unlikely to be arrested. Serious Fraud Investigation Office (SFIO) sources indicate that there is no provision for arrest as the investigation has been completed and the chargesheet has been submitted to the court.
The union ministry of corporate affairs had earlier given permission to prosecute Veena. Veena Vijayan has also been named accused in the chargesheet of SFIO in the deal. The SFIO filed the chargesheet in the Ernakulam District Court yesterday. This chargesheet will now be considered by the Ernakulam District Sessions Court. An examination will be held as to whether the chargesheet filed by the SFIO is prima facie valid. The court needs to be convinced that the crime is valid. Only then will it be clear whether Veena Vijayan and others will be legally arraigned. Only after that, they will have to face trial.
The SFIO investigation found that Veena's company Exalogic received Rs 2.70 crore from CMRL without providing any services. Apart from Veena, CMRL MD Sasidharan Kartha, some other officials of CMRL, CMRL and Exalogic company are also accused in the case. Charges that can carry a penalty of up to ten years in prison have been filed against them.
The SFIO investigation has also found irregularities in CMRL's financial transactions. It has been found that the company transferred approximately Rs 182 crore to political leaders, including politicians. The investigation has also found that Sasidharan Kartha's son-in-law Anil Anandapanikkar was given Rs 13 crore as commission.
