CHENNAI: MS Dhoni is set to return as captain of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the IPL. Reports suggest Dhoni will lead the team in their upcoming match against Delhi Capitals on Saturday, as regular captain Ruturaj Gaikwad is injured. Gaikwad sustained the injury during a match against Rajasthan Royals in Guwahati when a ball from bowler Tushar Deshpande struck his right wrist.
Dhoni’s return to captaincy comes amid uncertainty about Gaikwad’s participation in the next game. CSK batting coach Mike Hussey stated that Gaikwad’s performance in nets would determine his availability. If Gaikwad is unable to play, Dhoni will likely take over as captain since CSK lacks other leadership options.
CSK has struggled this season, winning only one of their three matches so far. Their sole victory came against Mumbai Indians in the final over, while they suffered defeats against Royal Challengers Bangalore and Rajasthan Royals.
