MADHURAI: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) has introduced significant changes to its Polit Bureau (PB). Leaders over the age of 75, except Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and Mohammed Yusuf Tarigami, have exited the PB. PK Sreemathy will also continue in the CPM Central Committee. This includes prominent figures such as Prakash Karat, Subhashini Ali, Brinda Karat, Manik Sarkar, Suryakant Mishra, and G Ramakrishnan. These leaders were removed due to the party’s age restrictions. Brinda Karat and Prakash Karat will be invitees in the CC. S Ramachandran Pillai and Manik Sarkar will be invitees in the Central Committee.
The PB has welcomed eight new members, including two Malayalis: Delhi-based Kisan Sabha General Secretary Viju Krishnan and R Arun Kumar. Arun Kumar is a leader from Andhra Pradesh. U Vasuki and Mariam Dhawale have joined the Politburo in the wake of the departure of women representatives Subhashini Ali and Brinda Karat. U Vasuki is a central committee member and trade union leader from Tamil Nadu. Mariam, a central committee member from Maharashtra, is the national general secretary of the Mahila Association. K Balakrishnan (Tamil Nadu), Amra Ram (Rajasthan), Jitendra Chaudhary (Tripura) and Srideep Bhattacharya (Bengal) are the other new PB members.
