THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning of possible rainfall in the next three hours across seven districts. According to IMD, isolated moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds reaching speeds of up to 40 km/h is likely in the districts of Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Palakkad, Kottayam, Idukki, Thrissur, and Malappuram. An Orange Alert has been declared in Alappuzha, Ernakulam, and Palakkad districts.
In addition, light rainfall is expected in isolated areas of Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Kozhikode, Wayanad, and Kannur districts over the next three hours, according to the IMD.
The weather department had earlier warned that rainfall is likely across Kerala for the next five days. Yellow alerts have been issued in various districts. Today, Yellow Alerts are in place for Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Idukki, Palakkad, Malappuram, and Wayanad districts. The forecast indicates the possibility of isolated heavy rainfall.
The term "heavy rainfall" refers to precipitation between 64.5 mm and 115.5 mm within 24 hours. Thunderstorms accompanied by rainfall and strong winds with speeds between 30 to 40 km/h are also likely today, while thunderstorm-related rainfall is expected tomorrow as well, the IMD stated.
