KOCHI: Sirajuddin, the husband of a woman who died during childbirth at home in Malappuram, was taken into custody on Monday. He was taken into custody by the Malappuram police from a hospital in Perumbavoor. A case is likely to be filed against Sirajuddin.
The postmortem report found that 35-year-old Asma died of blood loss during her fifth delivery. The postmortem report also states that the death would not have occurred if adequate care had been provided after delivery. The postmortem report will be handed over to the Malappuram police. The body has been handed over to the relatives.
Asma's first two deliveries were in the hospital, and the next three at home. It is reported that Asma and her husband, Sirajuddin, used acupuncture treatment for the delivery. Asma gave birth at 6 pm on Saturday. Sirajuddin learned that his wife had died at 9 pm. Later, Sirajuddin took the body to his house in Perumbavoor. The police then shifted the body to the Perumbavoor Taluk Hospital. The baby is being treated at a private hospital in Perumbavoor.
Asma's family had told the police that Asma was not taken to the hospital even though she was in labour pains. It is reported that Sirajuddin did not allow his wife to be taken to the hospital, even though she was in pain. He was a man of witchcraft and superstition and believed in Siddha Vaidyam.
