THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: DCP Nakul Rajendra Deshmukh confirmed intensifying the investigation against Sukanth, implicated in the suicide of an Immigration Intelligence Bureau officer at the international airport in Thiruvananthapuram. The police have created two groups to find the whereabouts of IB officer Sukanth, who has been at large since his girlfriend’s suicide.
An iPad and mobile phone were seized from Sukanth's house. Evidence of physical and financial exploitation and bank records of financial transactions worth more than three lakh rupees have been found. The woman IB officer’s phone was destroyed in the train accident, making it grueling for officials to unearth more evidence. The accused needs to be taken into custody and questioned to clarify his role in forcing the young woman to undergo an abortion. Sukanth’s parents are also absconding along with the accused.
DCP Nakul Rajendra Deshmukh said the delay in understanding Sukanth’s role in the incident helped the accused go into hiding. The reason for the woman's suicide was a sudden provocation through a phone call. The exact details are yet to make it out as her phone was damaged beyond repair.
The IB officer was found dead after being hit by a train near the Pettah railway overpass on March 24. A case of unnatural death was registered. It was only after the victim’s father handed over evidence of sexual assault that the police filed charges including rape against Sukanth.
