HYDERABAD: Police arrested a man for brutally attacking his wife with a hollow brick. The man arrested is 32-year-old Basharath, an interior designer based in Hyderabad. He thrashed his 22-year-old wife, Shabana Parveen, 14 times with the heavy, hollow brick. Shabana, who was seriously injured, is still undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit. CCTV footage of the attack has been released.

Basharath and Shabana met during a religious gathering in Rajasthan in January 2023. The two fell in love and got married in Kolkata in October 2024. A few days after marriage, problems started appearing between them. Basharath resorted to violence and would often beat up Shabana. Some days back, she got badly injured in his attack and had sought treatment. Shabana feared to return along with her husband again.

Basharath appeared in front of the hospital where Shabana was standing and had another heated exchange with her. It is reported that Shabana refused to go along with her husband, which irked him. Basharath stormed towards her and kicked her to the ground. Despite Shabana's attempts to crawl away, he threw a heavy stone on her 14 times and then left in his bike. He left believing that Shabana would not make it back to life. Police have initiated an investigation into the incident.
