THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: 4.39 lakh buildings, including houses, were built in the state in the financial year 2022-2023. More in Malappuram (62,576), less in Idukki (10,598). Meanwhile, Thiruvananthapuram leads in building density while Idukki is in last place. This is according to a recently released report by the Department of Economic Statistics. Building figures are released every two years.
The report also states that the increase in population, urbanization and economic status is the reason for the increase in buildings in Malappuram. Thiruvananthapuram, which has a high building density, saw 56,709 buildings rise during this period. 34 buildings per square kilometer. Malappuram has 25 buildings per square kilometer.
The report also suggests that special plans should be formulated for traffic management and waste management in Thiruvananthapuram, Thrissur, Malappuram, Kozhikode and Ernakulam districts, where building density is increasing.
72.21 percent are houses, more in Thiruvananthapuram
Of the total 4,39,857 buildings built in 2022-2023, 3,17,630 are houses (72.21%). Of these, 2,28,688 (72%) are in rural areas. The number of houses is more in Thiruvananthapuram (49,606). Most of them are within the corporation limits. Since Thiruvananthapuram is the administrative centre, the number of people who have come here from other districts to find work and settle here has increased, which is the reason for the increase in the number of houses. The block panchayat where most houses were built is Kozhikode Kunnamangalam. Among the municipalities, it is Malappuram Manjeri.
