MALAPPURAM: The main accused in the gang selling MDMA centering around various educational institutions in the district has been arrested. The arrested is Ugandan native Nakubure Tiopista (30). A special investigation team led by Areekode Inspector Sijith arrested her from the Electronic City area of Bengaluru last evening.


She is the main accused in the gang that smuggles drugs to Kerala from Bengaluru. After questioning her, clues have been received about other Nigerian nationals involved in the inter-state drug trafficking gang. Efforts have been intensified to arrest them. A week ago, notorious criminal Arabi Aziz (43) of Poovathikkal in Areekode, and Shameer Babu (42) of Kaipancheri house of Edavanna Mundengara, were arrested with 200 grams of MDMA from Areekode.


The accused were caught while trying to sell drugs brought from Bengaluru. Then Anas of Poovathikkal and Suhail of Mayyil in Kannur, who supplied them drugs, were also arrested. With this, the number of accused arrested in this case has increased to five. Drugs worth Rs 10 lakh were seized from them. The luxury vehicles used to smuggle MDMA were also seized.
