THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A meeting chaired by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan decided to take action to prevent bird nuisance around the Thiruvananthapuram airport. The Chief Minister suggested that slaughterhouse waste be processed scientifically and that slaughterhouses should be centralized.

CM Pinarayi Vijayan:

“Public slaughterhouses and unlicensed stalls should be eliminated by ensuring alternative systems. The airport's CSR funds should also be used for waste management activities led by the municipality. CCTV surveillance should be ensured in places where waste is likely to be deposited. The organic waste collected by the Harithakarma Sena should be processed scientifically.”

The Chief Minister directed that the area around the airport be made garbage-free. Punitive action will be taken against those who dump garbage in public places. Awareness boards will be installed in the place.

Under the leadership of Corporation, a meeting of the Residents Association, Kudumbasree Neighborhood Group, and social, community, and cultural organizations should be convened to raise awareness about the dangers posed by bird nuisance and the importance of waste management. A committee consisting of airport management representatives, corporation representatives, and public representatives should be formed to plan activities.
