THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Heavy rains are likely to lash the state today. Yellow alert has been issued in Malappuram, Wayanad and Kannur. Isolated heavy rain has been predicted. Heavy rain is defined as a rainfall of 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm in 24 hours.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has informed that light rain is likely at isolated places in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha, Malappuram, Kozhikode and Kannur in the next three hours.

Kallakadal Phenomenon
The National Centre for Oceanographic Studies and Research (INCOIS) has informed that there is a possibility of sea erosion due to waves rising to 1.0 to 1.1 meters as part of the Kallakadal phenomenon in Thiruvananthapuram (from Kappil to Poovar) from 02.30 pm tomorrow to 11.30 pm.

The National Oceanographic Research Centre has informed that there is a possibility of sea erosion due to waves of 1.2 to 1.3 meters high along the Kanyakumari coast from 8.30 pm tonight to 11.30 pm tomorrow. Fishermen and coastal residents should be alert as there is a possibility of sea erosion.
