KOCHI: Police have registered a case in connection with the clash between lawyers and students in front of Maharaja's College, Ernakulam. The Ernakulam Central Police has registered a case based on a complaint filed by lawyers. A case has been registered against ten students who have been identified. The lawyers allege that the students intruded into a program organized by the Bar Association at the Ernakulam District Court the other day and created trouble.
Twelve people were injured in yesterday's clash. A verbal spat between students and lawyers continued in front of the college today. Lawyers and students hurled stones at each other and accused each other. The students alleged that the lawyers hurled stones at Maharaja's College. The students have released the footage. The lawyers injured in the clash are undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Kochi.
The footage shows lawyers throwing stones and beer bottles into the college. Three police officers were also injured when they tried to quell the violence. They have been admitted to the General Hospital. SFI activists said that the violence was caused by the lawyers behaving badly, including towards female students, after drinking. SFI and Bar Association members had protested following the violence. Adil Kumar, the president of the SFI unit at Maharaja's College, suffered serious head injuries in the assault.
