PALAKKAD: Congress filed a complaint against a BJP leader for issuing death threats to MLA Rahul Mamkootathil. Congress workers went to the SP office to file a complaint against Palakkad BJP district president Prashant Sivan.
Yesterday, Prasanth, in a diatribe, warned the Palakkad MLA to restrict himself from demeaning RSS leaders or else threatened that he would not set foot in the place.
Palakkad witnessed huge protests yesterday against the BJP-led corporation naming the skill development center for the differently-abled after RSS founder Dr. K. B. Hedgewar. DYFI and Youth Congress organizations marched to the venue where the foundation stone laying ceremony was to be held. DYFI broke the stone slab while youth Congress workers protested by throwing bananas at the foundation stone laying site.
Amid the protests, Municipal Chairperson Pramila Sasidharan inaugurated the event. A protest march was led by Congress councilors carrying an effigy of Hedgewar in front of the municipality. The police stopped the workers in front of the municipality and seized the effigy. A clash broke out between the workers and the police. Youth Congress district president Jayaghosh crossed the barricade and entered the municipality, reached the chairperson's chamber and shouted slogans.
While Jayaghosh was arrested and taken away, the MLA and his workers blocked the police jeep. Due to strong resistance, police released Jayaghosh.
