KOLKATA: The Calcutta High Court has directed the deployment of central forces in Murshidabad district of West Bengal following incidents of violence during protests against the Waqf Act. The order was issued while considering a petition filed by BJP leader and Leader of the Opposition, Suvendu Adhikari.

Reports suggest that three people were killed in the violence, including a father and son who were found hacked to death inside their home in Samsarganj. Their house was also looted by the attackers. Another individual was found shot dead in Dhuliyan, also in Samsarganj. Several others sustained injuries during the clashes.

According to police, 118 people have been arrested in connection with the unrest. Internet services have been suspended in affected areas, including Jangipur. In addition to the police, the Border Security Force (BSF) has also been deployed to maintain law and order. Authorities have stated that the situation is currently under control. Police operations are ongoing in districts such as Malda, Hooghly, and South 24 Parganas to trace those responsible for the violence. On Friday, during the clashes, protesters in Jangipur set a police vehicle on fire and vandalized the office of Trinamool Congress MP Khalilur Rahaman.
