KALPETTA: A man attempted suicide after strangling his wife to death at Kenichira in Wayanad. The dead is Lisha (35) of Kelamangalam. Her husband Jilson (42) later attempted suicide and has been admitted in Kozhikode Medical College Hospital. The incident happened Monday early morning.

Jilson killed his wife after locking their two children in a room. He strangled his wife using a phone’s charging cable. He later climbed a tree to hang himself, but fell down. He then drank poison and also slit his wrist with a blade. He also cut his hand with a wood splitter.

Financial obligation led him to take the drastic step. He had sent messages to his friends late last night that he is going to die. One of his friends saw the message and informed Jilson’s neighbours. The incident came to light when they reached the spot.

The police and locals are in the place. The inquest proceedings are going on. Jilson is a pump operator of the water authority.
