THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The government has given a clean chit to ADGP M R Ajith Kumar over alleged illegal amassing of wealth. It is believed that the chief minister has accepted the vigilance report acquitting the officer. The chief minister who returned from Kannur yesterday called for the file and signed it.
The vigilance investigation against Ajith Kumar was conducted on the allegations raised by P V Anwar regarding illegal wealth acquisition. The vigilance director submitted a report stating that Ajith Kumar has not amassed wealth disproportionate to his known sources of income. The chief minister has accepted this investigation report.
Meantime, the DGP had informed that a case could be registered against Ajith Kumar in the incident of giving a false statement. The DGP's recommendation is that civil and criminal action can be taken. Ajith Kumar had given a statement that ADGP P Vijayan is involved in the gold smuggling. The statement given to the DGP was that SP Sujith Das had told him about Vijayan’s involvement. However, Sujith Das had denied this.
P Vijayan had given a letter to the government seeking legal action. The government had sought DGP's opinion on it. P Vijayan had earlier filed a complaint with the DGP, saying that Ajith Kumar's statement to the investigation team about his involvement in gold smuggling was false. He had also requested action to be taken in the complaint.
