KOLLAM: The official Benz car that was going from Thiruvananthapuram to Kottayam to pick up Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar met with an accident. The man who assaulted the police driver of the escort vehicle has been taken into custody in connection with the incident.
The incident took place at 3:30 pm yesterday at Lower Karikkom in Kottarakkara on the MC Road. The governor's official Mercedes-Benz car was coming down the Lower Karikkom slope when a Toyota car parked on the left side of the road moved forward and tried to make a U-turn. The governor's vehicle hit it. The escort vehicle that came right behind it also slightly hit the Toyota. After everyone stopped the vehicles and got out, Kottarakkara native Riju (45), who was in the Toyota car, assaulted the driver of the escort vehicle, Anas. The police then arrived and took Riju into custody. No one was injured. Riju's car was also taken into custody by the police. The governor's vehicle was later taken to the workshop. The Kottarakkara police have registered a case.
