CHALAKUDY: 70-year-old man hacked his neighbor to death in a dispute over the entry of domestic dogs into a yard in Kodassery, Maramkode. The deceased was identified as Shiju alias Sisupalan (40) of Cheriyekkara house on Kanalpalam road in Maramkode. The accused neighbour, Anthony (70) of Autokaran house, was arrested by the Vellikulangara police. The incident took place at 11 pm on Saturday.

There was an argument in the field of Jose about Anthony's pet dogs destroying the crops. However, Anthony said that it was Shiju's dog that was entering the field. This led to an argument between Anthony and Shiju. Then they got into a fight. Later in the night, Shiju came to Anthony's house with a knife and started a fight. In the meantime, Anthony took out a machete and slashed Shiju. Shiju died on the spot after being slashed in the neck.

The postmortem of the body was conducted at Thrissur Medical College Hospital. The funeral will be held tomorrow morning at Maramkode St. Joseph's Church Cemetery. Shiju, a painter, is unmarried.
