VATICAN CITY: Is there another head of the Catholic church, like Pope Francis, who received wide acceptance across the world for his prudent take on matters deemed volatile? Pope Francis’ value of humanity transcended national and religious boundaries. The fact that money, wealth, and pleasures never influenced Pope Francis is just one of his many unique qualities.
Needless to say, the Pope’s final message to the world was about Gaza, advocating for peace. As the head of the Catholic Church, which had properties in most countries of the world, the Pope managed billions of dollars in assets. However, Pope Francis, in his pursuit of spreading spirituality, cared less about financial matters.
The Pope was given a monthly stipend of $32,000 (approximately Rs. 2.7 million). He refused this amount shortly after taking office as the head of the global Catholic Church in 2013. Pope Francis transferred the amount he would have received to a trust that works for the destitute. Even before becoming Pope, he did not receive any remuneration from the church or official positions.
The Pope's ways of staying away from wealth and luxury didn’t end there. In 2017, Lamborghini gifted Pope Francis a special edition Lamborghini Huracán. It costed two hundred thousand dollars (about Rs. 1.7 crore). Surprisingly, Pope auctioned the car and donated the proceeds to poverty alleviation.
