KOCHI: The police report said the suicide of Mihir Ahmed, a ninth-class student of Global Public School in Thiruvaniyoor, was not due to ragging. There is no evidence for ragging. The Puthenkurish police have submitted a report to the Aluva SP saying that suicide was not due to ragging, but family issues.


Mihir, a ninth-class student of Global Public School, committed suicide by jumping from his flat in Tripunithura on January 15. Mihir's mother later came to the fore, alleging that brutal ragging he faced from school was the reason for her son's suicide.


She said that her son was subjected to brutal torture by other children. In addition, there were allegations that the boy was also subjected to teasing on the basis of his skin color. Following this, there were major protests against the school and the principal.


The Department of Public Education had also submitted an investigation report regarding the death. Following this, the police report clarified that the cause of death was not ragging. Meanwhile, his father had initially filed a complaint alleging mystery regarding Mihir's death. Later, the mother filed a complaint with the police alleging ragging.


Shafeeq Madampat, father of Mihir had said that his son, who lives in a flat in Tripunithura with his mother and stepfather, used to call him regularly and that his son had not told him that there were any issues. The complaint was filed with the police demanding that Mihir had spoken to his stepfather just before his death and that they should find out what it was and who was in the flat at the time of his death. The father had filed the complaint along with screenshots of the chat with Mihir.
